Who knew that combo would be so good together, of course the rice part is Chex cereal. These are a sweet munchie that are great as a to go snack or a dessert for all ages. I’ve been making these crunchy treats since my kids where in grade school, they followed my son’s travels in the Navy, and arrived in college care packages. Speaking of which we call them Muddy Buddies straight of the Chex Cereal Box although I alter the recipe a bit. (I don’t want to get into any copyright infringement disputes) However when three of my children went to College in Western PA we discovered they were called by a different name, Puppy Chow. Sorry that is flat out just wrong like many other things in Western PA.
On some level they could be deemed a pseudo healthy snack that said I don’t think I’d go toe to toe with a nutritionist on that particular subject. Sometimes you just have say, it is what it is…
Muddy Buddies
- 1 (12.8) box Rice Chex Cereal
- 1 1/2 C Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 3/4 C Peanut Butter
- 1/4 C Butter
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1/4 – 1/2 C 10x Sugar
Pour Cereal into a large bowl, place wax paper over a large pan I use a jelly roll or half sheet cake pan. In a medium sized pan over low heat mix together Chocolate Chips, Peanut Butter, Vanilla, and Butter until melted and blended. Pour mixture over Cereal tossing till coated, spread out on prepared pan allow to cool. Once cool sprinkle 10x sugar over mixture toss until lightly coated, store in a sealed container.

You can call it whatever you like. When something is this good, the name’s unimportant. Just pass the bowl over here and I’ll get back to you about that name thing later – munch later.
