Yes I know, I am the worst blogger ever, but just think what a great weight loss plan it would be, if you only ate when I created a post. That said, here is something for you to feast on.
This Thanksgiving, I finally did what I have been threatening to do for years, brine a turkey. The results, well honestly, I wasn’t impressed. I’ve read numerous recipes, and articles on the benefits of the brine, all of which really sold me on the concept. Perhaps my expectations were different from what the results are supposed to deliver. I get that brining is used to ensure the turkey, a very lean bird, is moist and juicy when served. In some aspects I was hoping that the brine would add a slight flavor to the turkey. I didn’t feel as though there was any added flavor to the turkey. Should the brine add flavor to the turkey? If I made this brine again, I would add fresh sage to the brine liquid when I cooked it, hoping for a flavor boost. The one thing that the brine did effect was the drippings, when I made the gravy, yikes it was salty. I’m not sure how to get around that one. The turkey that I prepared was on the small side, about 10 lbs, which could have had something to do with the salt issue.
What is Que you ask? Why it’s Barb-b-que or BBQ of course, and by BBQ I mean smoking up some lovely chunks of meat, into fall off the bone, melt in your mouth heaven. Now some people confuse BBQ with grilling, they are not interchangeable, Barbeque is smoking, low and slow. While Grilling is the opposite, hot and fast. Another way they are not synonymous is, you don’t go to a BBQ, you eat BBQ. I’m going to a BBQ, should be I am going to a cookout, these are important things to remember.
Updating, renewing, rejuvenating…re-starting. It’s not that I haven’t been cooking, I haven’t been sharing. Here are some of the things I have been up to, let’s start with cake! Life’s uncertain eat dessert first…
Nancy’s Triple Chocolate BIrthday Cake
Lori’s Birthday Lemon Meringue Pie…just like her Mama made.
Who knew that combo would be so good together, of course the rice part is Chex cereal. These are a sweet munchie that are great as a to go snack or a dessert for all ages. I’ve been making these crunchy treats since my kids where in grade school, they followed my son’s travels in the Navy, and arrived in college care packages. Speaking of which we call them Muddy Buddies straight off the Chex Cereal Box although I alter the recipe a bit. (I don’t want to get into any copyright infringement disputes) However when three of my children went to College in Western PA we discovered they were called by a different name, Puppy Chow. Sorry that is flat out just wrong like many other things in Western PA.
I have been looking for this Christmas Decoration for a long time, yes I know some people would really question if this falls into a Christmasy like category. Now that I live in Florida I thought it would be easier not so much. If anyone knows where one of these bad boys can be found it would be greatly appreciated…
BREAKING NEWS…BREAKING NEWS…BREAKING NEWS…
In this corner Tom The T-Day Turkey….
No offense Santa you know I love you but, come on give Thanksgiving a fighting chance. Every year the joys of the
Holiday Shopping Season are seriously encroaching into November territory, sometimes even oozing into October. Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday of all, it’s just about being together eating food, then eating even more food until you feel like a balloon in the Macy’s Parade, and of course Football. No present pressures, wrapping paper shortages, tangled tape or tree wrestling, if you are lucky enough it’s just being with people you love…
